Best day trip from Barcelona? Leave tomorrow!

Hello! I was wondering what the best day trip is from Barcelona on train. We are already going to Montserrat. Do you think Girona or Stiges or Tarragona and Poblet. Can any of these be combined? We will have the entire day. I want to see as much as we can, and I realize that Stiges is just a beach so I don't know if that is worth the time. Thank you for your help. We leave TOMORROW and I just want your thoughts. Thanks for anything you have to offer. I love scenery just as much as history, so those are options as well.

I just got back from Barcelona last night. Just to let you know, if you do decide to go to Girona, don't go on a Saturday or Sunday. I went Saturday afternoon, and the whole town was practically shut down. It appears to be worth an afternoon trip, but again, when nothing is open, it's hard to tell!

I was in Barcelona last year and drove up to Colluire in France. Great little seaside town where Matisse lived.

When my wife ande I were in Barcelona, we took daytrips each to the Sitges/Tarragon (south) area and northeast to the Pyrenees towns of Puigcerda, La Seu d'Urgell, Llivia, etc.

If you like beaches and hip restaurants/bars then go south. But our daytrip to the towns in the Pyrenees were much more relaxing with a lot of breathtaking views, pretty and quaint towns and great food. I'm not sure that the trains go to those towns in the mountains. But, if I were driving, that would be my choice. Fyi, Pyrenees mountain roads can be a challenge to drive given the steep twists and narrow roads.

Day trips:

1. This is a bus then walk and take a return bus back day trip rather than train. We had it on our list of things to do and didn't have time, so it's on the "next time" list. http://www.barcelona-metropolitan.com/default.asp

2. Montserrat - you're already going. Get an early start that day and get there before it becomes crouded. See the Basilica and museum first (before crowds) and then hike around and explore.

3. Cava tour. Maribel's files tell to get there and this would be doable by train, check out http://www.maribelsguides.com and look into the Barcelona file. Once you have downloaded the pdf file, search on "cava".

You'll also see some other suggested daytrips in Maribel's file.

I hope you see this before you leave. If not, perhaps it will be useful to someone else.

One more thing... Figures... If you have any interest in Salvadore Dali. Spain is celebrating his 100th birthday and the city of Figures has some special stuff going on to commemorate this event.

I am still here and I saw it. Thanks

Figueres (I believe this si the appropriate spelling) offers the Dali Museusm. A most unique museum featuring what I'd call Dali's beyond surrealistic and sometimes industrial art. However, as it doesn't merit any more than a couple of hours visit, you may want to combine this with the Coillure in France suggestion so as to fill your day's trip and make the most of the driving time.

Hey thanks for catching the spelling oops. Figures that I'd miss a typo when I don't proof-read.
