best city/country to spend christmas?

we are from asia, and my mum and i would like to spend christmas in a different part of the world. we are currently choosing between barcelona and new york but everytime i read the forums here, i change my mind again. please help us, since christmas is peak travel season. we are planning to leave December 22 and staying till new years.

it doesn't have to be the typical white christmas that we never get to enjoy in the tropics, but we'd like to know where is the best place to spend christmas?

Wherever your friends and family are with you.

i have never spent christmas in barcelona, but christmas in new york is wonderful. the decorations are magical and the city totally lights up. good luck.

I've spent Christmas in Paris and Rome, and found both very lively and festive. London, on the other hand, seems to shut down for a few days.

I live a little over an hour away from New York City by train, and I like to visit the city during the Christmas season, even though it's very very crowded at that time. The atmosphere is very festive, with tiny white lights on street trees, elaborate animated displays in the depatment store windows, the huge tree in Rockefeller Center, with skaters in the rink in front of it, Neapolitan nativity scene in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, etc. Winter is my favorite time to visit New York City (I prefer more natural places other times of the year), and, if you can tolerate big crowds, you might really enjoy it at Christmas.
