Do I include Cesky Krumlov in my itinerary?

We are planning on spending 3 nights in Prague. Day 1 will be arrival day from Canada, so it will be a loose, just get the lay of the land, early to bed night. We plan on hitting most of the main sights as well as just hanging out and experiencing Prague. Day 4 will probably be early departure to pick up a river cruise in Nuremburg. Is Krumlov a must see? I have seen that it is 2.5 hours from Prague, so that makes it pretty much an all day trip. Do I need to increase my stay to 4nights in Prague?

We loved Cesky Krumlov and spent an overnight, but with how much time you have, I would not say it is a must see. I think that would be a lot of driving just to spend a few hours there. Increasing your stay in Prague to 4 nights might help, but keep in mind that is still only 3 full days. Map out your plan for those 3 days - you would still need basically a whole day to see CK, I wouldn't short change Prague!!

Here is a link to my trip report from Prague and Cesky that you may find helpful:

You only have 2 days in Prague; my opinion is to skip CK. I checked the train schedule from CK to Nuremburg, thinking that you would not have to return to Prague, but there is no reasonable schedule. It's a long day and then you have a long bus ride to Nuremburg from Prague. Too much time in transit within a few days.

How are you getting to CK from Prague in 2.5 hours, unless you're taking a bus. The trains take almost 4 hours each way.

I love both Prague and CK, but you don't have enough time for both!

I love Prague - been twice. I've been to Cesky Krumlov once but did not love it. Obviously some people do. Prague is very, very touristy but is still a real city and somehow absorbs the tourism and isn't spoiled (in my opinion). Cesky Krumlov is tiny - with windy streets and pretty castle at the top of the hill - and very, very touristy and is kind of spoiled by it in my view.

Cesky Krumlov is just one of several cute towns in Southern Bohemia that you might like, but the only one most people hear of is Cesky Krumlov - hence, it is mobbed with tourists. I thought Jindřichův Hradec and Třeboň were both really nice towns also and worth visiting.

I enjoyed CK and found it a good day trip, but would never say it is so important that I'd go there with only 3 days in Prague, if I had never been to Prague before. Not worth that -- cute, dolled-up town with an interested private castle.

Ditto Andrew. Liked CK but enjoyed Prague much more. And we wished we had stayed in Jrindichuv Hradec one night rather than two in CK.

Thanks very much for all of your input. Trying to cram everything in I guess. After reading your responses, I am thinking of just staying in Prague since I know that our week on the cruise will be very full. A more relaxing 3-4 days might be a good thing. Thanks again
