Best car rental companies??

We are planning to rent a car to drive around Ireland - when I search on google, it seems there are a LOT of Irish car rental companies.

Can anyone offer a recommendation?

Thanks!

We used Nova Rentals in the U.K. last year and they are available in Ireland. They were very helpful and the price was good. They are a consolidator, so the car actually came from Europecar, but all the paperwork was through Nova. (www.novarentacar.com)

Hi cd,

Also check www.autoeurope.com

This is a commonly repeated topic on this site. Do a text search for CAR RENTAL in Ireland. You will probably find HOURS and HOURS of reading on the subject.

ira: I have taken your advice about autoreurope in the past and was well satisfied with their rates and the service we got through Hertz, with whom they booked us.

But yesterday I was pricing a car rental through autoreurope and decided to cross-check the rate at Hertz.

With autoeurope, I entered our dates for a Rome pick-up and Venice drop-off. I specified the Rome location that I knew to be Hertz's: Vatican City (v. Gregorio VII). Drop off: Piazzale Roma.

I got a quote of 319 USD "not inclusive of possible drop-off charges" for a Ford 2 door compact, manual transmission, etc etc.

On the Hertz site I used precisely the same data and got a quote of 189 Euros from Vatican City to Piazzale Roma. No special seasonal rate was indicated and there was nothing to indicate this was other than the standard charge.

I then checked autoreurope for another set of dates in March -- same quote.

I know autoeurope will match the competitors' prices. But why bother, in this instance?

Anyway my faith was slightly shaken.

Try www.oscannlain.com/hertz. They advertise in Ireland of the welcomes. I got a very good price on toyotoa corolla rental. They also have an 800 number (8008280826) that is answered by a very nice lady in Wash. Have fun

I have never been blinded by such "faith" - - and have always at least done some spot checking some other possible sources (typically start with travelocity to browse the majors) - - like you, I have once had a great deal, directly from Hertz.

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi tedgale
>I know autoeurope will match the competitors' prices. But why bother, in this instance?<

Because:

A. CDW is required by law in Italy. Did the Hertz people include CDW.

B. If the Hertz people are actually giving you the same rental as AutoEurope, they will give you a better price.

If it is not the same deal, they will tell you why they can't match the price.

Also, try http://www.auto-europe.co.uk/

You can sometimes get better rates from the UK site than from the US site.

Call 1-888-223-5555 for both.

The worst thing that can happen is that you will get a better deal from Hertz.
