Best breakfast in Paris - We found it !!!
 

Just arrived home from ten days in Paris, more than planned because of the train strike but certainly have now covered the city well and truly. With a friend we discovered the best breakfast deal, with lovely staff and a great location in the whole of Paris. Of course we didn't cover all places but there was no need once we had found this little gem. A modern interior, near Rue de Buci but not with the prices of that tourist street, right by a small covered market and a mall. It is called Seraphin and is on Rue Mabillon, No 5 just before the church. It's only a few steps up from the Metro stop.
They serve a various set menu for breakfast and we chose this one at 11.90 euros. It was excellent and the best value around.
Bacon and eggs, fresh fruit salad in a glass, freshly squeezed orange juice, french bread and croissant with jam and a pot of tea or coffee.
Go and enjoy - you will not be disappointed.

Glad you enjoyed the breakfast but I would not term it "a deal" or "a great value" at 17.50 USD. But you had a great time and that is the important thing.

€12.50 now. A discretion, so eat a lot and skip lunch may be an idea.

On the same topic, "Breakfast in America" is good, too.

I guess it is a good change if you want some eggs and meat, and fresh fruit, as you don't typically get that at a hotel breakfast unless you're paying 14€ or more for it.

Another alternative breakfast place is the 'Breakfast in America', two locations now... Eggs, bacon, home fries, pancakes, 'French' toast (pain perdue à l'americaine)...

I doubt 'breakfast in America' is as good. Also where do you get the US dollar from, it works out to around $20NZ and I would pay the same for that here at home. I think you Americans are unrealistic, too many chains in your country offering cheap deals but without the quality. The eggs here were the right colour, not the insipid green yellow of american eggs, yuk.
Kappa what's with the 12.50E, we ate there last week and it was 11.90E even if it does say 12.50E on their website? Don't alter facts if you have not been there.
For Paris prices it is great value, you pay that at many hotels for half the menu. Go try and then confer.

You are at a sort of "attacking" mode, aren't you? The website says €12.50. That's also a fact. How can you be so sure that the price has not changed since last week???

"Best breakfast" IMO is whichever boulangerie/patisserie catches my eye each morning.

Also in the same area the Relais Odeon at the corner of Blvd. St. Germain and Rue de l'Ancienne Comedie serves a very nice and reasonably priced breakfast of coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice,eggs, and toast (baguette) for approximately 9 euro. Without eggs it's around a euro less.

I've had dinner at Seraphin and it was delicious. The tree course dinner is 28 Euro and there are some good selections. See their websight for the menu.

11.90 euros X today's USD vs Euro of 1.4676 = 17.46 USD.

Sorry if you were offended. It's just not a unique value even for Paris. I live here and you can do better anywhere in town. But relax you said you had a great time so be happy.

In the Marais, Le Loir dans le Thiere at 3 Rue des Rosiers does a yummy brunch at weekends - aim to arrive before mid-day. It's not all that cheap - about €17 but it's got a lovely ambiance and it's a great lazy way to start the day.

I get a cheaper breakfast, a baguette with butter and jam plus a cafe creme.

I'm definitely not a big breakfast eater and have bacon and eggs and that kind of breakfast maybe twice a year. I'm more than happy with a grand cafe creme and maybe a tartine. To me, that's the best breakfast in Paris.

When I go to Paris I want the ususal French rolls and coffee, but I think whoever started the "Breakfast in America" restaurant has a great idea. If any of you are thinking of moving to Europe to work and live, how about starting a BIA type place in another city? I often thought that opening a bakery with chocolate chip cookies, pies, and brownies etc. might be a hit.

I think it's funny that you actually say "I doubt that Breakfast in America is as good". How on earth would you know or even suspect that if you haven't been there? I had a great breakfast at Breakfast in America, so I'll match you. I "doubt" your place is as good. It certainly is a lot more expensive.

Wow, 11,90 Euro for eggs and fruit? That seems awfully high to me but I am not much of a breakfast fan when in Europe. I prefer cafe creme and a french roll with good butter and jam when in Paris, along with most of the locals. I would never spend that much for breakfast at home and wouldn't spend that kind of money for breakfast in Paris either.

That being said, it sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed it so the memory is a great value for you.
