Best Base: Berner Oberland
 

OK, I agree that the term "best" is subjective.

The plan: am taking a friend to Switzerland (he has never been) en route to our final destination in Italy.

The guy loves "scenery" so I am figuring since we do not have a LOT of days, perhaps three max, and please spare me the lectures about "not enough time" I've been before, he hasn't.

There is a lot we will miss but where in the BO would be the best town to base. Down in Lauterbrunnen or above? We will use rail to get around. I am not fond of Grindelwald altho not because of the reasons often seen here.

Wengen, thanks I was thinking the same but my reasons may be different than yours but I don't know yours.

Depends on the time of year. June through October my vote goes to Wengen, April and May for some village at Lake Thun.
