Best bargain in Milan on designer fashion
Can anyone post information on finding best designer fashion bargains in Milan, sale dates, amount of discounts compared to US, etc.....

I'm looking for the same info right now, but I'll share what I have. It is the accessories that are most discounted, clothing much less so. I've been told that the real deal is to shop in Florence at the local leather-workers, but I do want something "name-brand" as it will be my birthday present. There are some designer outlets outside of Florenece, for both clothing and home furnishings like Frette linens.
I think your best bet is to check on prices before you leave the states, or have a friend do it if you don't live in a big city. Also, if you are staying anywhere else in Itlay, TimeOut guides have a cheap shopping section with some really good listings for Rome and Florence. Happy shopping!

By law, sales are only allowed in Milan (and the rest of Italy) in January and August.

There are a wide range of outlets outside Milan and Florence. There are also a few bargain basement type stores in Milan. I suggest you buy the Born To Shop Italy guide; they are all listed in there.

Try factory outlet stores. You can find a good list at www.dolcevita.com/outlets/outlets.html. There is also an outlet mall, called Foxtown about 1 hour away from Milan, just over the Switzerland border.

Wow, thanks guys for this info - I never knew the Italians are saving the bargains for us, overseas travellers! I'm thinking now of opening my own store buying cheap in Italy selling expensive in USA.
