Best areas of Porto to stay
We're planning an 8-9 day stay in Porto in September. We enjoy getting to know a particular city, such as Porto, by wandering the different areas of the city, seeing key sites, and taking a couple of nearby day trips....typically renting an apartment in a quiet area, using the grocery stores and relaxing at different cafes/bars/parks, occasionally going out for dinner.
So, in what particular area (neighborhood, street, etc) does anyone suggest we should focus our apartment search? Some of the areas I've read about include: Ribeira (ancient quarter along the river) Miragaia Barredo Vila Nova de Gaia (other side of the river) Baixa (downtown area) Any suggestions would be appreciated. With regards, Bruce |
I visited Porto for the first time back in March. We stayed a week and have to say I enjoyed it. We rented an apartment in the Cedofeita district, which was good in itself, but the location wasn't ideal, and if I visited again I would probably look in Ribeira, but more likely in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Another possibility would be Foz do Douro, which although further out, seemed to have quite a frequent bus service. |
We stayed here and loved it http://www.vitoriavillage.com
They have apartments as well. Loved Porto, you can see our pics here https://www.flickr.com/photos/pug_gi...57648961467343 Happy planning! |
We are wanting to use Marriott points which means we'd stay at AC Hotel Porto. I realize it isn't in the tourist area but rather by the stadium. I know that the metro station isn't far and that seems like a reasonable way to get into main part of Porto. Or taxis; is Uber there?
This is for May 2018 With Marriott's stay 5 get 1 night free, it is really a great deal. Input? |
