Best area to stay in Florence?

I'm going to Florence week after next. What is the most central area to the main tourist attractions? Hotel rec's too, if you've got em! Our price range is up to about $150 a night.

Thanks,
Cricket

Florence is quite small, hardly anything you'd want to see in town would be more than a half hour walk from anywhere else

Do a search here on this message board for the Hotel Casci on via Cavour. Also check the Rants and Raves section.

www.hotelcasci.com
I haven't stayed there but it has a good location and has often been praised here

The Casci is great value.

Here's a good description of the various neighborhoods in Florence (though as Elaine said, everything is pretty much within walking distance of everything else):

http://www.frommers.com/destinations...051025074.html

I'd stay near/on the Piazza della Republica, the Piazza della Signoria or the Piazza del Duomo. But, everything is really quite close. The Hotel Casci is in an excellent central location.

Thanks for the info. I just emailed the Hotel Casci and they're booked for the nights I need. Any other suggestions? I'll try the Quarto Piano, but would like to have a couple other options.

Cricket
