Best area of Lisbon to stay ?

We will be in Lisbon in early July. Which area would be the best to rent an apt. as far as being centrally located, charming and old world, safe, etc.

Sher - those apartments look wonderful. Have you stayed in either?

I agree with lobo, Chiado was great. I describe the apartment we rented there in your other post. Both lobo and another fodorite, schuler, got to the inside and can vouch for it.

Bailey. Friends have stayed in the larger apartment and we are staying in the smaller one in June.

The owner is wonderful to deal with.

I have absolutely no doubt we will love the apartment and the location is wonderful.

I know that given that Lisbon has very nice budget accomodations and the apartment is E95 which is a little more than some other nice B&B's, I think it will be worth it as it has a lot to offer.
