Bernina Express
 

Hi All
We will be travelling in Swtizerland in mid September and am wondering if the Bernina Express is worth the extra expense (as it will be summer and no snow) or will we see just as much on normal train. Also is it worth doing at all in summer or would we be better off travelling from Luzern to Lake Como by another route?

Snow along the track is not the major attraction of the Bernina line.
The Palu Glacier can be seen all the year round from the train window.
If you really want to enjoy the glaciers of Bernina, you best leave the train at Bernina Diavolezza and go from there by cablecar to the Diavoezza Hut and back..
If you spend a night in the area, you can go to other glacier view points like Piz Corvatsch.

Lucerne dp by Lucerne-Interlaken Express 8.06 - Brünig Pass - Meiringen ar 9.16, dp by Post bus 9.25 - Grimsel Pass ar 10.25 (30 min photo stop) - Oberwald ar 11.20, bus change, dp 11.27 - Fiesch ar 12.09, put your lugage into the lockers and go by gondola to Eggishorn/Aletsch glacier (longest glacier of Europe), hve lunch there, turn back by gondola to Fiesch dp by train 14.55, change at Brig and Milan and arrive at Como at 18.47
