Bernese Oberland Hiking Adv

Two friends and I (mid 20's, in very good shape, not much hiking experience) are planning a weekend trip to do some hiking in the Bernese Oberland. Here is our itinerary so far:

Day 1: Grindelwald to Wengen
Day 2: Wengen to Lauterbrunnen
Day 3: Lauterbrunnen to Kandersteg

Are these all possible to hike during the day? Also is the airport accessible from Kandersteg? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Zurich? Yes - Kandsersteg has a train station on the main line to Zurich via Bern. And Zurich Airport to Grindelwald about 3 hours on trains- check www.sbb.ch for schedules and infos and general info Swiss trains also www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com - as for hiking hours just google Hiking in Berner Oberland and get all kinds of info on trails that most here will be unfamiliar with.

I would think Lauterbrunnen to Kandersteg would be rather rugged - others a piece of cake comparitively.

Grindelwald - Kleine Scheidegg or Maennlichen - Wengen:
long hike, but not difficult and perfectly feasible in 1 day for well trained people

Wengen - Lauterbrunnen:
short walk

Lauterbrunnen - Winteregg - Muerren - Rotstock Hut - Sefinafurgga - Gspaltenhorn Hut - Oberloch - Bluemlisalp Hut - Lake Oeschinen - Kandersteg:
count 2 - 3 days

Kandersteg - Zurich airport:
2 1/2 hrs by train, trains every hr from 7.13 until 21.13
Kandersteg - Basel airport:
2 hrs 40 min by train and bus, trains every hr from 7.13 until 21.13
Kandersteg - Geneva airport:
3 1/2 hrs by train, trains every 30 min from 5.54 until 20.42
Kandersteg - Milan Malpensa airport:
3 hrs by train and taxi (for the last few miles), trains at 8.42, 12.42, 14.42, 18.42
Kandersteg - Berne airport (makes sense for London, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Vienna, Cologne and Amsterdam only):
1 1/2 hrs by train and taxi (for the last few miles), trains every hr from 7.13 until 21.13

So looks like we could cover some more ground on day 2 when we leave from Wengen. Maybe stop for a meal in Lauterbrunnen and then keep going further? Is it possible to make it from Wengen to Lake Oeschinen in one day? If not, what's the best spot to set us up for a quick hike in the morning to Lake Oeschinen for lunch?

Wengen to Gimmelwald would be energetic and on the 'road' to Kandersteg - Gimmelwald has a famous mountain hostel for cheap overnights.

Gimmelwald is a few miles from Murren.

You are familiar with mountain huts along trails -especially Murren to Kandersteg:

I told you above that Lauterbrunnen - Kandersteg is 2-3 days. Add 1 hr for Wengen - Lauterbrunnen and deduce 45 min for Oeschinensee - K'steg.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you want to hike between these towns???

<>

Hiking? Or taking the train and then hiking?

If you plan to hike from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen, you'll be leaving from Lauterbrunnen - no need to go back up to Wengen.

From Lauterbrunnen you can be in Kandersteg in about two hours via train.

There's some great hiking at Lake Oeschinen - you can hike up from Kandersteg, or take the cable car and then hike once you get up there.

Which is why I asked - it's not terribly clear.
