Berner Oberland in the rain

We leave next week for Meiringen and it has been raining for a week and the long range forecast is for more. Suggestions for rainy day activities?

Ouch. The curse of all scenic vacations.

On the positive side, it seldom pours all day. Hopefully when the forcast is for rain it's 15-20 minutes a few times a day.

How about the Beatus caves- can't be raining in there? I haven't seen them yet, but I had put it on my rainy day list. Good luck

Hi Pam,

It really hasn't been raining the whole time. Yesterday it was more or less dry and today is really rather nice. We haven't had many clear blue skies lately and the weather forecast has been more wrong than right.

You may just find that the weather won't be so bad after all. Do bring rain gear though. And layers for all sorts of temperatures. Switzerland isn't Washington State. We get lots of rain showers but it doesn't rain constantly (or rarely).

And if worse comes to worse, you might want to go to Lugano or Locarno for the day. Their weather has been great for the past few days.

Other things to do on a rainy day:

Ballenberg (as long as it isn't too cold)
Bern
Lucerne
Mystery Park, Interlaken
A long train ride

I hope this person hasn't started their trip yet. We've got fresh snow down to 700 meters. It's been raining and snowing like crazy. It's supposed to dry out now a bit but it certainly has been a nasty week for any travellers thus far. And soo cold.

I was right about one thing though. Switzerland isn't like Washington State. We get snow at the end of May, they don't.

A train trip to almost anywhere in any kind of weather can be enjoyable. Bring a picnic and a bottle of Swiss wine.
