Berlin: Where to buy basics like socks, shampoo, etc..

Been searching...no luck. Just basic things like socks, underwear, toiletries...best results Ive found are Rewe, Penny, Netto, Lidi, Aldi....they all appear to be more like food grocery stores with a little household items.

I guess I'm looking for more of a Target/K-mart type store in Berlin, which I know they don't have on the same scale as the U.S. but looking for something similar (and please don't say KaDeWe...I already know!).

The markets will have shampoo etc.

Are you in Berlin now? Go to Potsdammer Platz or the HBF

Heading to Wilmersdorfer Strasse (a short bus or bahn ride from Zoo) will yield the combination of cheap toiletry and cheap clothing shops, including a Woolworth:

"Real" stores are the much larger all-in-ones, like Target or Walmart: http://www.kaufda.de/Filialen/Berlin/Real/v-r93

You can also look for Rossmann and DM, they are more or less like American drugstores.

Rewe or any grocery store will have those items as well, including socks.

The best thing to do is just go in to stores and look!
