Berlin Transfers

Flying into TXL & staying at the Radisson Blu, Karl-liebknecht-strasse 3; 10178, East Berlin. Any suggestions for best transfer? We don't want to lift luggage up & down stairs & don't want to plan on walking very far in case it is raining. So, I guess that leaves taxi or a car service.

Any idea on taxi cost or a good car service.

Thanks, Julie

A taxi should run you about 20 euros.

Or take the TXL bus from the airport if you think that the weather is okay for a short walk.
Get off at bus stop "Spandauer Str./Marienkirche".
Walk back 200 meters to your hotel.

Costs €2.10 pP, but you can also get any day or multi-day passes for public transport already at TXL airport. The TXL bus would also be covered by any day pass and does not require a surcharge.

Happy travels in a Happy New Year.

The TXL bus is very tourist-friendly, runs frequently and efficient.

Thanks everyone. Takes care of from the airport. Didn't think to ask about the train station. We will depart the Radisson Blu for the Berlin hof (per bahn.de) for a train ride to Hamburg. Do we need a private transport for that trip?

Happy New Year, Julie

Just get onto the TXL bus that stops in front of the Radisson Blu (200 m walk) to get to Berlin Hauptbahnhof for the train trip to Hamburg. Takes about 25 minutes.

Or walk around the hotel to Hackescher Markt train station and take the S3 in the direction of Spandau. Takes about 15 minutes.

I would estimate taxi costs at around EUR 8.00 to 10.00 for the 2 of you (so not such a bad deal either). Would take about 10 minutes.

In general I don't think the concept of private car services (as one would probably use for airport and train station transfers in London) is very well established in Germany. Cabs are mostly quite reliable and fares not that steep for inner-city transfers.

Hi, Julie

I take the TXL bus to/from the airport and it is very handy. Lots of room for luggage. Since you going on a cruise, you might have more luggage than usual, so a taxi might be more practical. I would take the taxi from your hotel to the banhof.

I think your trip sounds great. I've always wanted to do a trans-Atlantic cruise.

The last time I was in Berlin/Hamburg in May it was very warm and I had only brought clothes for cold weather.
