Berlin to Prague

I'll be staying in Berlin for about a week in the beginning of December (to continue my German language studies), and it had been suggested to me that I should find a way to visit Prague since I'll be so close.

My question is, does anyone have an approximate time and cost that a train ride would take? Could this be a long day trip, or would an overnight stay be recommended? Or would I simply be better off exploring Berlin (or another nearby German city) for an extra day? Finally, is a particular day of the week better than any other? Any comments or advice would be appreciated!

According to Die Bahn's website (www.bahn.de), the fastest train takes 4hrs 31 mins (no change required) and costs 50 euros.

Even though I've never been to Prague, I don't think 1 or 2 days is enough for it.

1 week in Berlin is quite perfect - that's how long I was there last year and I wish I had more time (especially if you are interested in history & museums). While you're in Berlin, make sure you go to Potsdam for a daytrip.

4.5 hours, direct train. 50 euros regular fare each way.

Definitely not a day-trip destination.

Hi Matteo,

Prague is too far away for a day trip from Berlin, and on top of that, you will find that you won't have time enough in Berlin.

I was there a couple of years before in a two week culture seminary at the Goethe, and I was hard pressed for time. I returned there last December for 5 days ... and I haven't yet visited Postdam ;)

Berlin is an amazing place.

Get the book BerlinWalks to explore the city. It will also fill you in on its social and historical past and present, some of which you will not get in class.
