Berlin Tips
Coming up I will have 3 days in Berlin, 1 day in Dresden, and 1 day in Prague. Any thoughts on Berlin and Dresden? What are your can't miss sights? Happy travels from the Museumlover!

Museumlover (I am too), I would suggest an excursion from the city to nearby Sansouci just outside of Berlin. Sansouci is to Berlin what Versailles is to Paris - not quite on that scale but historically important.

With only 3 days in Berlin, I'd not take the time to visit Sansouci. It's an interesting site, but getting there, touring it, and getting back into the city could easily take up an entire day. In addition to which, tours of the inside of the castle are by reservation only, and limit the number of people who can participate. If you really *crave* seeing Sansouci, you might consider looking into reservations now.
My last trip to Berlin was 5 days, and it was easy to fill that time with events and sights without venturing outside the city proper. Berlin is crammed with great museums, any one of which is worth a day's visit. |
I agree with fritzrl. Berlin is a huge and fascinating city and 3 days will barely do it justice. Getting to and from Sanssouci and seeing it can eat up most of a day.
If you are over the moon about palaces go for it. If not, I highly recommend just for starters: The Reichstag (must see!!) Brandenburg Tor The various walks along the route of the Berlin Wall Mauerdenkmal (Berlin Wall Memorial Park) Pergamon Museum and the whole museum quarter - see what is on exhibit during your visit and choose. The Pergamon is amazing and I think you will find lots of other great art in that area... Checkpoint Charley and Museum Memorial for Murdered Jews Jewish Museum Berlin House of the Wannsee Convention Well, there is a ton more, but we only had 3.5 days so only got to do a fraction of our list. I loved Berlin. Enjoy!!! gruezi |
Thanks for the advice. I'm checking out the reports and info. Thanks again!

Fodors, of course, offers a comprehensive and richly-informative website for travellers.
There is, however (ahem) another travel-planning website that I often recommend: VirtualTourist. Re your inquiry about Berlin museums, I just found a very useful series of postings at VT on that very topic. http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/d29d6/12626/4/ And, apologies to Fodors folks for diluting the membership pool just a little bit. |
