Berlin? The place to be?

I want to see the gate Alexander the Great drove through( I cannot remember which museum) and the Brandenberg Gate. Is a 2-3 days long enough?Otherwise I`m open to suggestions, nightclubs are not really for me but I do love jazz ,or is that way too old fashioned for such a `hip` city?
I am mostly happy to to stuff in the daylight hours and as I`ll be there mid March I`m guessing the weather will still be pretty cold ,so warm nights in my pj`s are appealing.
I`m inclined to opt for self catering rather than hotels, any thoughts?
I await the wisdom of ,and tips from my fellow travellers. Thanks.

Berlin is a huge city ...
if one is interested in museums, art and most of all , history ,2-3 days is not much time.
Some part of Berlin have a hip vibe, but most of the city is not " out of bounds"
for old-fashioned folks.
Hotels are extremely reasonable priced for a major European city....less than half of what one has to pay in
Paris or Rome.

No worries, you won't feel "too old" to enjoy the city.
For jazz clubs, this website will give you good guidance:
jazzclubsinberlin.com
Several clubs have been around for decades.

I don't think that with just 2-3 days, i.e. 1-2 nights, it is more hassle to rent an apartment than to just pop into a hotel. You don't waste any time waiting for your host to meet you, go to the supermarket, stock up on groceries, and so on. Not sure if you want to waste your few hours with such activities.
As danon wrote, hotels are not really pricey. Or at least there are always many which are not. Just avoid the Easter weekend and week after if you can (and if that should be in March next year).
Weatherwise it can still be cold, or already mild to warm spring weather. Evenings/ nights should still be cold, though. So you may want to bring and wear layers.

sorry, messed up last para on self catering apartment vs. hotel.. what I meant was that with just 1-2 nights it will be more hassle to rent an apartment than to just book a hotel.
