Staying at an apartment near the Brandenburg Gate.

Any ideas on how much taxis would be?

Is there a fixed fare?

I found a shuttle service which will do it for 19 Euro each way. Not bad but I thought TGL was pretty close to the city center.

Don't know about taxis, but there's a direct bus TXL, from Tegel to the S-Bahn station on Unter den Linden, very near the Brandenburg Gate.

We took a taxi that approximate distance last year and it was 12 Euros.

Is luggage okay on that bus though?

Well, it's advertised as the JetExpress, so they must be ready for people with luggage - but it depends how much you're prepared to manhandle around. I've certainly done it without any trouble on the ordinary X9 service bus, but that was with a bag for a few days.

Luggage does not cost extra on the bus. There is a bit more space for luggage on those buses than on regular lines.
Single trip with the bus costs 2.10 Euro, no surcharge for luggage. Don't worry about understanding the ticket vending machines at the airport bus stop - you can also get your ticket in the bus. Public transport (which is called BVG in Berlin) also has an information booth in the airport (at one of the exits of Terminal A) in case you need it.

There are no fixed fares for taxis in Berlin - but Brandenburg Gate is appr. 15 Euro, depending on traffic.
There are always lots of taxis outside of the airport, so pre-booking a shuttle is not really necessary.

One question about the JetExpress Bus TXL.

If you get a 7-day ticket for BVG, does it also cover this specific bus?

Can you buy the 7-day ticket at the airport some where? Does the BVG info booth at Terminal A sell 7-day passes?

Also, where do flights form CDG land, at Terminal A or elsewhere?

Topping for scrb, as we're headed to Berlin in a few months...

We took a taxi in March, similar route, and cost $20US.

I think there's a BGV desk at the airport, but we forgot to look for it there.

Not a member at TripAdvisor or else I would have asked the German member there who responded whether it could be used on the JetExpress TXL bus as well.

I'm almost positive that the TXL bus is covered with the pass, as it's shown on all their maps as a regular city bus marked "TXL". I've never read anything that led me to believe otherwise.

There's no need to pay to become a TripAdvisor member, it's free. You just need to register your email and give a password and you're set.

Having lived in Berlin for 10 years, I can assure you that also the TXL bus is covered by the public transport passes. There had been a surcharge for this airport link, but that was years ago and is no longer in effect.

In case you do not land at terminal A: Tegel airport is not a huge place. The Public Transport info booth in Terminal A is next to the central bus stop. And they sell all tickets and passes.

As someone else already stated, the passes are good on any kind of public transport vehicle (bus, subway, light rail = S-Bahn, streetcars) within the zones you purchased them for.
