berlin questions

visiting the city at the beginning of December,so we have a few questions?

1.please help me choose the best saturdays and Sundays flea/artisan markets.
there a lot,so i am trying to decide what is the best for each day.

of course depends of the weather.
2.there are 3 similar walking tours:infamous third Reich sites with the original Berlin walks, and third Reich tour with the brewers Berlin tours and the Insider Tour. what tour is the best?
3..choosing between two hotels:casa camper and the melia?

we are a couple 55 years old.

Cannot help with hotels since I usually stay at the Grand Hyatt. As a general comment, expect to see lots of Christmas Market stuff including the snow slide set up at Potsdammer Platz and elsewhere and don't miss the interior display at the KaDeWe. Yours is a great time to be in Berlin IMO.

Melia is much better location IMO. You can walk most places, metro is across the street. ( S and U Bahn). We stayed at the hotel twice and found it excellent .
We did not take tours, but several are starting a few minutes from Melia.

1. The flea market on Strasse des 17. Juni. It's probably the most popular, but also the best for antiques and not only trash. Open Sat/Sun, best choice is in the first hours after it opens at 11am.

We stayed at Melia last year and were very pleased with every aspect of our stay, enough so that we are returning next week for another stay. I agree with Dukey that this is a great time to be in Berlin.

We did the 4 hour Insider walking tour and thought it was great.

I did a walking tour with Brewers and thought the guide was great. I think the standard of walking tours offered in Berlin is quiet high because of the competion.

I can recommend Original Berlin Walking Tours - the 4 hour city walk and Secrets of the Third Reich. Both had excellent guides who spoke English well (if that's your prime language). Their website will give you a list of their other walks.

Melia Hotel was wonderful in a great location!!!

We did the Discover Berlin Third Reich Tour and it was outstanding. The guide was from England so there was no communication problems. We would have done their Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp tour if we were staying longer but unfortunately we had to take off for Prague.

Berlin is now one of our favorite cities in Europe - so much history. Enjoy your trip.....

Have used Insider Tours for 3 different tours, the Famous Berlin Walk, the tour to Sachsenhausen and the one to Potsdam. Would like to go on their 3rd Reich and Cold War tours too, but need to get back to Berlin. I find their guides to be very professional, but also entertaining.

Even though the flea market of Strasse des 17. Juni is probably the biggest, it is also the most touristic. You will find a everyday flea market in Friedrichshain on Boxhagener Platz. More information in German on the page Wochenmärkte in Friedrichshain, http://www.fewo-berlin.biz/fhain-wochenmarkt.html. Simply use the translate function of Google.
