Berlin/Prague/Vienna/Budapest

Hi all. I have total 15 days for 4 cities: Berlin/Prague/Vienna/Budapest
Travel to each city by train.
Pls advise how many days to allocate for each city.
Will you recommend to visit another attractions along the way?

Four major cities in only 15 days is already a LOT to cover. And do you really have 15 days - or does this count the day you arrive (a jet lagged half day) and the day you depart, which would mean you have only 13.5 days in total?

Assuming this 14 nights I would reco:

Berlin - 4 nights (3.5 days)
Prague - 3 nights (2.5 days)
Vienna - 3 nights (2.5 days)
Budapest - 3 nights (2.5 days)

You need to allow at least a half day - possibly longer - to get form each city to the next. Check bahn.de train schedules to determine actual time, then add 1 hour on each end to pack, check out and get to the train station and in reverse at the next city (so a 3 hour train trip will take 5 hours out of your day).

It is usually most efficient to take a train either early in the day, 7 am or so, or in the evening, 8 pm or later, to avoid missing the whole center of the day for sightseeing.

Don't forget to book with the right sites:

1. Berlin to Prague www.bahn.de/en or www.cd.cz/eshop from €19

I've posted journey photos & info at http://www.seat61.com/trains-and-rou...-to-prague.htm

2. Prague to Vienna www.oebb.at or www.cd.cz/eshop from €19

I've posted train photos & info for this route at http://www.seat61.com/prague-vienna-railjet-train.htm

3. Vienna to Budapest from €19 www.oebb.at

Most trains are Austrian Railjets, http://www.seat61.com/railjet.htm

All these sites give print-at-home tickets with no added booking fees.

Great train info, thank you, man in.

I had 15 days for Prague, Vienna and Budapest, flew in to Budapest and out of Prague. The train from Vienna to Prague six years ago was over 5 hours, pretty run but ate up time.

Four cities would be too rushed for me but certainly easily done.

I'd divide them fairly equally, with the extra day or so in the place of most interest and/or place it takes longer to get to. That would not be Berlin for many people, especially if you start there. But if you are really interested in it, it could be. I'd give the extra day to Prague or Budapest (the 3.5 one).

Man_in_seat_61 , many thanks for the use info. Thumbs up!

nytraveler, i like your idea. Thanks. I used to travel early in the morning.

I will arrive Berlin on 30/11, and fly out of Budapest on 16/12.

That is VERY little time for several magnificent cities. Are you sure you can see and experience the things that make you want to visit these wonderful places? You might want to consider cutting at least one from this trip.

I always recommend rome2rio.com

rome2rio is a good place to start (it is where I often start), but they have too many gaps, errors etc and just some weird software glitches. Best to use local tools or indeed seat61 for the real facts.
