Berlin, Prague, Krakow.... Good travel order? Should we add another stop?

How many days in each place? 5, 4 ,4 ???

How long is the train trip from Berlin to Prague? Prague to Krakow?

Would it make any measurable difference in our experience if we traveled at the beginning of Sept opposed to the end of that month?

Berlin to Prague by EuroCity train with great scenery along the Elbe river between Dresden & Prague, from €29 upwards in 2nd class or €59 in 1st class at either German Railways www.bahn.de/en or Czech Railways www.cd.cz/eshop - buy from whichever has the cheapest rates for the train you want and print your own ticket.

If you are not into overnight trains, which many people are not (yes, it certainly is an experience in itself, what kind is another story), you might make a stop in-between as it is a long train ride and requires a change. The overnight train is not that convenient in timing, either as you don't leave until 11 pm but arrive very early in morning when you can't do anything (about 7 am).

When I did that (train between the two cities), I stayed over in Olomouc in Moravia a day or two and quite enjoyed it. there are some other routes through Ostrava and Katowice which require a couple transfers and take a long total time.

Olomouc is only a little over 2 hours by train from Prague, then to get to Krakow from there, you have to change trains in Prerov or Ostrava to catch the train. At least that's one method, the train from Olomouc to Krakow is then only about 3:30 hrs. You could do it the same day, actually, as there is a 6:55 am train from Praha to Olomouc which gets there before the train from Olomouc to Krakow. I just wanted to see Olomouc and spend a few days in Moravia.

You could add Dresden in for a few days if you have time - right on the Berlin to Prague rail route- even a few-hour stop could be sweet. Otherwise yes Berlin-Prague-Krakow is logical.

Prague to Krakow is a long daytime train trip but not everyone will like sleeper trains too - always some noise from inside and outside the train - even in private compartments.

Earlier in Sept the better for weather though not a crucial factor I think. Crowds in Prague and Krakow could be thinner later however.

I would devote more time to Berlin than the other two - my personal subjective take.
