Berlin in November?
 

Hey Fodorites, I need your advice once again. I know I can depond on YOU! I'm taking a trip to Europe and have a few days to schedule. I'm considering Berlin because it will be economically feasible (only 37 euros including taxes & fees to fly into Berlin's Schoenfeld Airport). Here are my questions...If I travel to Berlin I would be there November 9-14, 2008. During that time would I be fighting through bitter winds & snow? What is the typical weather that time of the year in Berlin? Do the major sights (museums, palaces, etc.) close up or perhaps have early closing hours? Is it difficult or expensive to get from the airport? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Happy Travels!

Grey, wet and somewhat windy with temperatures about 5-10 degrees. But there may be some nice sunny days as well...

I spent several days in berlin a couple of years ago during the USA thanksgiving week so it was late November.

It was cool but certainly not bitterly cold. the Christmas market was about to open. The KaDeWe was beautifully decorated; prices were low and other visitors scarce.

I did it all with a down jacket and I would not hesitate for a second to do it again!

We were in Berlin in late October. It was cool but not uncomfortable. We did lots of walking outside during the day and evening. I wore gloves and a scarf and layered clothes. A head covering of some sort would also be advisable. We used the train to get from the airport to our hotel near Ku'damm. If you are there for a few days you might want to purchase a Berlin card. You can use it for transportation (bus or train) and it has other discounts. I would recommend a walking tour of the city.

We were in Berlin in late November 2006. It was cold, but we just wore layers--which was handy as we could take something off if we got too warm in the afternoon. Some sort of outer garment that will break the wind is a good idea.

We were lucky in that we had only one day with rain, and that was just for 4 or 5 hours on the day we visited Potsdam. We were unlucky in that the weather forecast for that day had said no rain, so we did not carry umbrellas. Live and learn.

Well - if there was rain instead of snow it couldn't have been too cold.

I've only been in early November and to me (from NYC) the weather was seasonable. Certainly not extra cold. Still warm enough to do a lot of things outdoors unless you're a very delicate flower.

I always visit Berlin in late fall or winter, nothing will be closed, and the best music programmes will be in full swing.

Yes, it was not freezing during the day, but it was cold enough that we were glad to have plenty of layers.
