Berlin from Frankfurt??

My wife and I are touring southern Germany commencing in a few weeks. Plans were to land in Frankfurt, hit Mosel, Baden Baden, Romantic Road along with a few other stops and back to Frankfurt. Many have advised that Berlin is a must see!! We have a few extra days but am thinking Berlin is a long drive from say Frankfurt. Has anyone ever taken the train from Frankfurt to Berlin and return?? How was it? Any other suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

Yes. Depending on what train you take, it takes about 5 1/2 hours. I would definitely opt for the ICE trains -- they are one of the best trains I've ever taken. For example, there's one that leaves around 4 p.m. and arrives about 9:30 p.m., with a dining car.

I have flown several times, which is very quick but not inexpensive.

The train takes ~4 hours. Second class should be fine for such a short journey. Cost ~$60-75 each way.

Germania Express (<b>http://www.gexx.de/gexx/makepage.php?seite=1&amp;rsl_lang=en&amp;PAGENT=25 9997&amp;PDUA=000000000000&amp;PMOP=000000000000&a mp;RESERVE=HBE</b>) has many non-stop flights a day between the cities. Flight time is just over an hour but it's a little more expensive.

Flying would probably be faster overall despite not going from city center to city center such as on the train. However, if you do decide to fly bear in mind the probable baggage weight restrictions you'll encounter.

Lufthansa sometimes has good fares, otherwise try Germania Express (low-cost carrier).
