Berlin: Fate of Weimeresque 1929 Parking Garage Up in Air...

usually a parking garage can be demolished and no one gives a hoot - but not in Berlin and not with this 1929 landmark piece of Weimar architecture that is now threatened with demolition.

What do you think - should this be saved or sent to the scrap heap of history along with much of the Berlin Wall?

I'm for saving it at all costs - putting the insides to new use maybe but retaining the historic exterior.

Little enough of pre-war Berlin has survived. I agree with you, Pal. Of course, it's not our decision.

There is a similar one in Chemnitz, even older (1929), excellent example for the style "Neue Sachlichkeit" and in good shape. Only that the NY Times doesn't know about it.
