Berlin Day Trips
I will be accompanying my husband on a business trip to Berlin for 10 days. While he is busy with work I would like to take some day trips on my own. I'm open to any recommendations for train trips I could make while he's at work and still be back by 7pm to have dinner together.

Highly recommend a trip to Potsdam. We took Terry Brewer's walking tour. It was highly informative and we really enjoyed it. We left in the morning and returned around 6-7pm. A full day and quite worthwhile.

Chloe2, there's some great information about day trips on this previous thread:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34910356 I will be trying some on my Sept. visit to Berlin. I agree with Tuni01 that Potsdam is a must - very close and tons to see and do. Sachsenhausen is on my list for next time. There's also LOTS to do in Berlin itself. We easily filled 6.5 days. The markets are fun: http://www.expatica.com/actual/artic...;story_id=1071 |
Thanks for the suggestions to get me started in the right direction. I'll definitely go to Potsdam especially since it's so close. I'm keeping Sachsenhausen in mind also.
I checked that previous thread and quite a few people seemed to really like Krakow. I'm hoping we'll be able to fly there on an inexpensive flight over a weekend. noe847: thanks for reminding me not to overlook Berlin...I'm sure I'll find plenty there to occupy my other days :) |
Hi Chloe2
Here is an article on Sachsenhausen in case you're interested. http://noambit.typepad.com/my_weblog...-macht-fr.html |
Hi, Chloe~
Like Noe847 says, you will have plenty to do in Berlin with your time. I was in Berlin last year for 9 days and only took one daytrip -- to Sachsenhausen. We never even made it to Potsdam, and this was my 2nd visit to Berlin. The city is endless fascinating and jam-packed with sights, sounds and experiences. I do encourage you to go to Sachsenhausen. It was easily accessible from the city and it was a very moving experience. I thought the exhibitions, displays and audiotour phone were excellent. My visit there stayed with me for a long, long time. Still does. And, definitely take the all-day (8 hour) tour with Brewers Tours it's the best value for your Euro around, I think. We didn't have Terry, but another great guide who was riveting, funny and full of facts. Try, if you can, to take the Brewers tour early in your stay there...that way, you'll see how the city and its history fit together as you explore during the rest of your visit. Gute Reise! |
