Berlin

I took a trip to Berlin this weekend August 11th to 13th. My wife and I stayed at the Swissotel in town which was a package deal with DB (Deutche Bahnhof). The deal was a 239 euro (per person) 2 night stay with 1st class train ticket. To and from my destination inside Germany. So plan on paying around 1000$ us dollars at the least on the weekend. The hotel is and should be rated as a 4 star hotel very classy! We started by 3 Friday and went to the Altes Museum (old Museum) @ 10 euros each with a english phone tour for about 2 hours. Greek and Egyptian period history art. It was the better half of my Museum tours. That night we asked the front desk for a a good sushi bar and that was just about 15 min. walk to there from the hotel. The meal we had was excellent the menu had the pictures on the card so there was not much difference. We paid only 50 euro's for our meal with tip. The next night we ate there we paid 60 euro's with tip after we ate our weight in food. Beware of the German History Museum crowded and had to wait on the person handing out the phones for the self guided tours. They were the only person in the world who could hand those out. They did not have a correct way to follow the tour for yourself you had to figure that out for yourself. Next we tried to check out the German parlament building if you are not there right before it opens you will be there the whole day just to get in. We went window shopping after that because it was about 3 or 4 pm and visiting anything for more than a hour would be worthless because they close at about 6pm. A great place to shop at is the BeWeWa in downtown they have just about every vendor you could think of in a GIANT department store they are open till 8pm Mon.- Sat. very crowded though. We went to the sushi bar again and then waddled back to the hotel later. Next day you need to check out Check Point Charley and Museum which is 100 ft. away from the check point. The only problem is the Berlin wall was built on the 13th of August so everyone was there. Not much else to say Duncan Doughnuts is here now in Berlin not a big selection to choose from.

I assume you are talking about the KaDeWe department store.

Glad you liked Berlin as well as many of us here do.

3 nights of sushi bar, you must love your sushi in Berlin It reminds me of an American tourist who went to Berlin and ate at Trader Vic's every night. Do you remember the name of the sushi place or what street it was on?

The sushi bar is called Saganos and is exactly at Kurfurstendamm 182 the phone is 030 / 23 88 59 38 or www.sagano.de. I have their calling card. Like I said I'll go there too again and again. Enjoy I figure a big city like Berlin they should have very qualified chefs in all types of cooking. I live in Germany with my German wife and have all sorts of different German food. But sushi only comes around a few times. If you go to Toronto Canada try the asian sector of town.

Thanks tanker. My son loves sushi and taking him to a sushi bar would just make his day in Berlin. There used to be one that he loved in a subterranean passage below the Sony center but it disappeared. Unlike his dad, he's quite the sushi connoiseur. So thanks for the Sagano name.
