Bergen fjord cruises and day trips

We are planning to be in OSLO Norway at the end of August 2022.
We only have 3 days in Oslo and plan to fly out to BERGEN on one of these days.
What will be the best cruise / day tour to do in Bergen, before we fly back to Oslo on the latest flight possible the same day.
Please help us to make the best choice.
Your input will be greatly appreciated.

seriously, the views from the Bergen/Oslo train are way more interesting than those from the plane.

Thank you for your reply - if only we had more time we would have considered the train.
We are also wondering if it is not better to fly to Alesund ( and not Bergen ) to see Geirangerfjord....
Can you help with any advise ?

You re thinking of one day to get to Bergen and back and see some fjord. Why not see if you can do a round trip by train? Basically take the Norway in a Nutshell tour, but instead of going all the way to Bergen, check if you can take a train back to Oslo when you return to the main line between Oslo and Bergen. It would be a long day, but you would see more of the fjords. All these pictures were taken during the suggested itinerary:

Thank you for your input. We see we will have to fit in this train trip in some way.

From the web:

and here is another suggestion; note that going to Bergen is not essential and the route given above is based on the same idea of multiple public transportation options.

You could do this yourself. Take the train from Oslo, get off at Myrdal, take the Fram train down to Fram, then reverse yourself back to Oslo. Check timing, you might even be able to get a fjord tour from Fram to Gudvangen, then up to Voss (or bus back to Fram through the tunnel), get the train back to Oslo. Full day and no Bergen, but good Fjord time. (I did not check schedules. Just thinking out loud.)

Thank you for your suggestion. We were also wondering if this would fit into 1 day - I will look into time tables.
Much appreciated.

You will see far more of Norway from a train widow than a plane window. You will be kinder to the world taking a train than a plane. Remember airports are outside the cities and it takes time, and money to get to and from them, plus the security checks etc etc.
Oslo of course is on a fjord, and there are boat trips along the Oslo fjord. Maybe not a spectacular as many, but with only one day available you may prefer that to a very long NIN round trip. There is even an electric boat tour of Oslofjord available, lasts all day.

I would spend your time around Oslo. Its a 5 hour train ride to Myrdal. Another hour train ride down to Flam which is quite scenic and a 2 hour ride on the ferry from Flam to Gudvangen. Bus ride to Voss and train to Bergen. It is a whole day and you can fly back to Oslo or take the train. So the scenic part of the trip is from Myrdal to Flam to Gundvangen and Voss. It also depends on the weather as the fjords get a lot of rain.

If you want to get out of the city, and don't fancy the Oslofjord then maybe a train trip to Lillehammer would be an alternative.

Thank you so much for the link to Lillehammer - if you can suggest something not to miss in the city of Oslo, please share.
Much appreciated.
