Berchtesgaden Salt Mine- fun for adults??

This tour has been reccommended to me several times by several different people- it sounds like it should be on our "Must Do" list while we're in Salzburg for 4 days this June.
I'm traveling with my mom, and while she's young (55) and very fit, she was recently diagnosed with Rhumatoid Arthitis :(. She has her good days (mostly) and her not so good days. I'm not worried about her walking around, or up and down stairs. I think she'll be fine. But she told me renting bikes were off the list. I'm wondering if the salt mine should be skipped as well. What do you think?
As always, thanks!

I would definitely go to the salt mines. The tour was not only informative, but also fun. ((b))

Go for it - it is really different and interesting. I don't remember a lot of stairs. The slide would only be a problem if she could not get into that position to sit and slide down.

We also went in June and the only thing to watch for is the end of year school trips! It was all kids and we got there first thing in the morning. Being a retired teacher that is not how I like to spend my vacations! But we survived.

Have fun.

We had a blast visiting the salt mine. The tour and guide were great. If she doesn't want to use the slide, there are stairs or a ramp (sorry I can't remember) to go down to the next level. It was a lot of fun.

At the age of 61, I went on the tour with a group of Italian school children. It was a blast. The tour was given in Italian but they had a translation for us at every stop. Most of the kids tried out their English on us. We all had a great time. The slides are fun--lots easier than going down the stairs.

Some how I am able to ignore all my aches and pains when travelling.

We too loved the salt mine... but if someone has limited mobility - or pain... I'd think twice. Can she easily lift her leg up and over things - is sliding down a long, steep slide diffcult. The walking isn't bad - altho you are sometimes walking in semi-darkness where footing could be a concern.

Thanks! I think we'll probably decide once we're there. I know she would be very hesitant... but heck, she went ziplining in CR over Christmas, so I'm sure she'd be fine.

In a similar area, so I thought I'd mention it...

We were told that the Ice Caves would be an "adventurous walk." No, DEATH MARCH was more like it. Avoid it!

Really ? ! ? So, skip the ice caves... thanks for the advice!
