Berchtesgaden & Salzburg in one day?
Hello all-
My wife and I are travelling to Germany for 16 days and 5 of those days will be based out of Munich. Is a day trip to Berchtesgaden & Salzburg doable in the same day from Munich: ----Using public transport (train/bus)? ----Using a car? In Berchtesgaden we want to see: Koenigssee, Mount Jenner In Salzburg we want to see the old town and do a self guided tour. We're willing to start early and end late but are wondering if this is even feasible? Thanks! Ean & Ashley |
It's posssible, but it doesn't make much sense:
Munich Hbf dp 5.53 - Koenigssee boat's pier ar 9.19, dp by boat 9.55 - round trip - Koenigssee pier ar 11.15 - cableway to Jenner and back, Schoenau Jennerbahn dp 13.15 - Salzburg ar 14.30, dp 21.02 - Munich ar 22.32 (railjet) resp 23.11 (with Bayern ticket). The Jennerbahn is closed from Nov 4th until Dec 20th |
I agree---enjoy Salzburg.

A train to Salzburg will take 1.5 hours or so from Munich. I would spend the time there. If you really HAVE to see both places you might be better off renting a car.
The boat dock for the Koenigsee is not exactly right next door to a train station. As I recall you either have to get public transport or walk about 40 minutes. Of course you can do it, there's nothing to stop you. No, you may not see everything in the "depth" that a bunch of people have arbitrarily decided is the "required" one but it can be done. |
