I am just glad I was able to make it to the funeral and felt good about telling Mr. Haines' brother how very he was admired by so many folks here.

I felt since I was in town anyway it was the least I could do and I am certain many others would ave attended if they had been here also.

Thanks for letting us know how it went and for representing the many here who were unable to do so. Best wishes for the remainder of your trip.

Dukey,
Thank you so much. I think it is wonderful and able to attend and then report back to the many of us whose lives he touched. I think he would be really pleased.

Thanks so much, Dukey. I know it was a rush to get there after arriving just this a.m. Good job.

I wish I could have attended - but it was not in the cards. You are a prince . . . .

Like many others here, I want to thank you Dukey for being there on our behalf.

I'm sure Ben, being the humble person he was, was probably blushing and giving us an "aw shucks!" Which got me thinking, what's the Brit's version of "aw shucks?"

Ben, I hope you're having fun up there, and still traveling the world. Your kindness and gentility will sure be missed.

Thank you for the "trip report" Dukey; it sounds like Mr. Haines had a proper send-off.

I love knowing he wore a straw boater. Can sort of imagine him on his bicycle with it.

Thanks for posting Dukey. May the rest of your trip be easy and joyful.

Thanks Dukey for representing the Fodorite friends at Ben`s funeral......and your report is most appreciated.

So Ben was a Cambridge man....wonder if he ever particpated in the Oxford-Cambridge boat race at one time. I would like to think so.

And a thank you from me Dukey for this thread of yours. Although I never emailed Mr. Haines I so enjoyed his post and I certainly admired him. A true gentleman from another era. Sharing his funeral with us is precious and priceless.

Nice 'report' Dukey, thank you for telling us about his service.

Your message is a fitting reminder that perhaps the best way any of us can begin to pay tribute here at fodor's to the lovely and gracious Mr Haines is just what you did -- with a useful, thoughtful and much appreciated post of information.
