Bellagio to Verona by train?

I will be traveling from Bellagio to Verona in early August via train. What is the best location for me to get a train and how do I get to that location from Bellagio? Also, any other info anyone can offer about this trip would be more than welcome.

Anne - The nearest station to Bellagio is at Varenna (- a 10 mins. ferry ride across the lake).

From Varenna the normal train route to Verona is via Milan. You will have to change train at Milano Centrale.

For train times and fares go to:

www.trenitalia.com

You can find Bellagio-Varenna ferry timetables on:

http://www.navigazionelaghi.it/itali...indicecomo.htm

Varenna station is a 10 mins walk from the ferry jetty.

It would be advisable to book a few days in advance - you can book in any travel agency in Bellagio which sells rail tickets.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Be very careful about coordinating your ferry arrival in Varenna with the train departure (assuming both are on time). That walk up hill from the ferry dock is a good ten minutes for most folks, particularly with luggage...so don't plan on a ferry that arives only a few minutes before or on taking a train from Varenna that you cannot possibly connect to.

Most of the trains from Varenna to Milan carry 2nd Class cars although there may be one very small 1st Class section in one of the several coaches. In my experience the difference between the two is minimal.

As Steve has indicated, you can get the train tickets at a travel agency. The rail station in Varenna is NOT manned (no ticket windows...not sure about presence/absence of machines) and sometimes the ticket stamping machine is out of order as well (don't despair...if the latter is the case just tell the ticket checker once you board).
