Bellagio Hotels

Does anyone have experience/recommendations for a hotel in Bellagio? We're specifically looking at Hotel du Lac and the Belvedere for starters but there is quite a price difference, so wondering about that. Also we're considering Hotel Metropole and Hotel Florence, based on recommendations from those (if any) who have stayed there. I didn't mention Villa Serbelloni, mostly because it looks a but "stuffy" feeling but willing to consider if the a/c works well.

Anyone? Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Our first choice was Belvedere but our visit was too early in the season. We ended up at La Pergola:

We liked the restaurant and loved the family owners. The down side is that it was a bit of the walk to the center. Here's our old TR for ideas:

We've stayed at the Florence twice and would stay there again, but I can't comment on air conditioning as it wasn't needed during our visits.

Thanks, TDudette. La Pergola looks interesting -- it's adjacent to the Belvedere. It looks like they aren't booking for May yet, so I'll keep an eye out for it. The TR looks like a treasure trove and I'll be combing through it.

Thank you, Jean; for you to like it well enough to make a return visit is quite the recommendation!

I don’t think Villa Serbaloni would be “stuffy”. Never stayed there but have spent a lot of time in Bellagio.
Look at Hotel Belvedere too as it is up high above town with great views. They also are among the few with parking.

I appreciate your input, HappyTrvlr, I'll have a 2nd look at Serbelloni.

Thoughts, anyone?

La Pergola is on east side of the peninsula, near the water.in Pescallo, Belvedere is at the top, walkable down to town of Bellagio on west side of peninsula. When we stayed at the Belvedere years ago it was filled with British guests who mostly came for a month.

Sort of like Seaside Hotel!

I hope they got a special rate for such a long stay.

The staff couldn’t understand why we were eating dinner at different places in Bellagio and not there every night. . We did eat at the Belvedere one night.

I stayed at the Metropole in May 2022 with my two daughters. I chose it for central location, relatively moderate price and the fact that they had triple rooms available. It is not luxurious, but it is comfortable and clean. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant view is fantastic as is the the view from the rooftop deck. The food is just ok, in my opinion. We did have breakfast there most mornings (included in room price) and often had a drink looking over the water in the late afternoon. I believe most, if not all rooms, have a water view. Ours did, along with a small balcony, which was nice.

I've stayed only at Hotel du Lac so can't compare to the others, but my lake view room provided a spectacular view and the location was convenient and those were the primary factors in my choice so we were very happy there. The breakfast room also has that great view. The proprietors were friendly. If I return to Bellagio, I'll stay there again if I can get another lake view room.

I appreciate all the comments from those who have actually stayed at these places... There's such a huge difference in price and the reviews are crazy with people giving 1 star because a mop was left in their room, among other inconsequential (in my view) rationales.

Would love to have more input if anyone is willing to share!

It's been a few years since I stayed there, but I loved the Excelsior Splendide. Location can't be beat for access to the boats. Most rooms overlook the lake, and are large by Italian standards.

Thank you, Holly, I will check it out!

We just stayed at Hotel du Lac a week ago. We loved it. At the time of booking, only superior non-lake view rooms were available which was fine with us. We don't spend a ton of time in our hotel rooms and there were plenty of places for the wonderful lake view. The rooms and bathrooms have all been renovated which was why I chose it over Hotel Florence which looked quite dated in its photos.

The staff was wonderful. Lake Como was a stop on a longer roadtrip so we had a rental car. We had reserved a garage spot with them that they warned would only fit a medium sized car. Our rental car was upgraded to an Audi A6 wagon so I contacted them in a panic. They saved their largest garage for us and we had no problem. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the lake and sunset drinks on their rooftop terrace were also wonderful.

Forewarning of the absolute crush of tourists midday in Bellagio. It reminded me a lot of Bruges where the mornings and later evenings are lovely and midday is crazy with day trippers. So being right on the water and near the ferry pier, it could feel a lot more crowded than a hotel up the hill (but then you are always walking up and down a hill).

On a trip to Northern Italy with another couple in 2012, we stayed at the Hotel Florence in rooms (#4 and #5) that had a huge, shared terrace. We spent a lot of time enjoying this terrace during our time in Bellagio. It was mid-week in mid-May, the weather was great and it was surprisingly uncrowded. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again. Here are a couple of pictures of and from the terrace.

Thank you, John and lolfn; I appreciate everyone's input since we have some time before we have to make our final decisions.

We stayed at Hotel Belvedere this past June and enjoyed it very much, only thing we didnt like was the restaurant for dinner, outrageous prices for what was offered.

I sent an Email to Hotel Florence last month and was told they do not accept bookings for May until November. You might keep that in mind if it interests you.

So that's interesting... I started planning for next May and originally wanted to book for the Amalfi Coast but became somewhat frustrated knowing that they book early, and yet there was no availability; so, I switched locations where at least I could get something nailed down, but changeable if necessary. I'm hoping that, uh, geo-political issues don't become more of an issue for everyone's sakes.
