Belgium, is it enough or ....

Hey guys,

I will be in Belgium for business from August 1st., and I will be free for myself from next Saturday to Wednesday, please help me and share your experiences

I have been in Belgium before and seen Antwerp many times, Ghent a full complete day and Brussels in quick glances.

I want to visit Bruges definitely this time but I am not sure about 5 days there, i was wondering whether to stay 2 nights and again go to Brussels and Antwerp to see what I've missed (which can be many) or to go to another near country.

by far I have also seen :
1- Paris 2- Frankfurt 3- Heidelberg 4-Luxembourg 5- Amsterdam 6- Vienna
but not thoroughly, I have seen them in a 1-day or max 2.

there are some cities in my mind: Rotterdam, Vianden, Koln, Are they worth to go alone?

what's your opinion guys? by the way my credit card expires this month and I can't reserve hotels for August, should I go there and hope there are suitable hotels available and pay cash or to book a room and pay it from here (non-refundable way I mean).

Oh god I really dunno what to do!

cheers,
Arash

Five days in Brugge is too long, IMO. The city is smaller than Gent and Antwerpen. Of course you can do daytrips from there, to Ieper (Ypres) for instance in case you're interested in history (WW1). Or to Lille, just across the French border. Lille is a very pretty city, it finds its origin under the Counts of Flanders.

I don't quite understand your credit card problem. You should have your new one way before the old one expires. At least, that's how it goes here.
Remember that holidays in Belgium are until August 31st, same in France. You might luck out in the cities but, in case you would want to visit out seaside - which is another option you might take from Brugge - the chances of finding a hotel room are really very small.

If you go to your bank you can speed up your credit card renewal.I had the same problem a few years ago. Ypres (great war museum)and the battlefields and cemeteries of WW2.Or you could divide your time between Bruges and Ghent to save traveling time.Paul

There is also the whole east of Belgium to explore - you might like to visit Leuven (Louvain), Namur, Liège, Dinant or Spa, or even the Ardennes - La Roche-en-Ardenne is one of the towns there, but there are lots of other little places to visit. If you are thinking about going as far as Vianden, why not even Aachen, just over the German border? Or Maastricht, just over the Dutch border? All picturesque and all close by.

You have lots of possibilities, not just Brussels, Gent, Antwerpen, Brugge!
