Belgium in September
 

Looking at spending 2-3 days quick stopover in Belgium in September (following from Munich, Germany)
Is there any must see places or things to do?
We are very outdoorsy, love mountain regions and also old castle & relic type buildings.
Anything you have in mind would be helpful, as I don't really know where to start! :)

Buy some books...
Begium is divided in 2 : Flanders in the north with charming cities (Gent, Brugge)... flat and with more industry. Dutch (Flemish) speaking
Wallonia in the south : more hilly (no mountain, signal de Botternage is highest point in Belgium and in the 600+ meters... rivers, castles.
Most famous castles : Bouillon, very medieval, I also love the ruins of .... along the vallée de la Molignée, some nice villages like Dinant on a river under an old Citadelle (fortress).
Tips : we're beer drinkers, like in Germany, but we drink good Belgian beer. ;-)

If you're interested in WW1 my husband and I did a tour (Over the Top Salient Tour) in Ypres while staying in Brussels last year and loved it. Ypres is just gorgeous and so was the countryside we drove through. The tour itself was amazing and very moving.

Brugge, Gent, Dinant, and Antwerp make good stops in Belguim.

Love, love, love Brugge!

And Brussels, which I forgot, often underrated but an exceptional city.

You might want to go to Durbuy, one of (if not the) smallest cities in Europe. They have a labyrinth that they make each year, open till early october. Never been myself, keep saying I'll do it this year...

It has outdoors, hilly (there are no mountains in Belgium) old castles and ruinous (relic) buildings to keep you busy for many a year.
