Belgium in February

Hi, I am heading for Brussels in February. Yes, I know, it sounds bleak but I'm excited. I'll be accompanying someone who has to work during the day. Do any of you have suggestions as to what are good day trips from there to do on my own? Yes, I will see the city of Brussels. I already know about Brugges. Is Amsterdam doable in a day? Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance.

From Brussels Zuid station to Paris every hour at 40 minutes past the hour, journey time 1hr.25mins.
From Brussels Zuid ro Amsterdam at 0828,journey time 2hrs. 40 mins.

You may be pleasantly surprised with some gorgeous sunny 60 degree weather! It happened to us on Valentines Day in Brugges a couple of years ago. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hi, My friend & I plan on going to Amsterdam for New Year's and heading to Bruge & Antewerp for a few days. Which place is colder? How long to spend at each destination would be helpful particularily if it is going to be cold? Will this drastically affect what we can see? We don't mind walking in cold weather as we are from Toronto, Canada. Thanks!!!

temperatures between those cities will be approximately the same - might be 1 or 2C max difference !

Hi Shelley,

You might want to pick up a small booklet at the train station when you arrive in Brussels called B-Excursions (in French) or B-Dag (in Dutch). It has a very good list of day trips in Belgium where they combine a train ticket with entry into an attraction, for example an abbey or museum.

We took a trip to Dinant recently this way and had a nice time. There are other places that are nice to sea that are beyond what most people can fit in.

One is a tram ride along the Belgian coast. Gent is nice as is Durbuy, Namur....

Amsterdam is about 2.5 hours or so by train. It is doable in a long day.

As a previous poster mentioned, it can be cold and nasty, so dress warmly, and you will have a good time. 60 in Feb is quite lucky, I'm afraid.

Bon voyage,
Jerry
