Belgium experts! Questions about Ghent and Oostende

In Ghent in front of the city hall (I think) there is a small area with a statue of four or five modern looking men on bended knee praying. I have two pictures of it and no explanation. Stupid of me not to have found out the meaning of it while I was right there!!

I also have a lovely photo of the Oostende train station with five modern women statures. Again, no explanation.

Can anyone help with either of these? They look so interesting, I wish I knew what they mean or represent. Thanks.

If you visit Ghent's website at:

www.gent.be

you can e-mail the tourist office ([email protected]) and perhaps they could identify the statues for you. Good luck. Peace.

I've seen that statue in Gent, and last night I looked it up for you in my accumulated tourist literature. It's called "The Fountain of Youth" and is from the 1890's. Sorry, that's all I can tell you.

Thanks to both of you. I am a little surprised that it would be called "Fountain of Youth". It seems more like a prayerful or mournful attitude being illustrated. Perhaps they are mourning that there isn't a "fountain of youth"!!!!

Another site I have been made aware of in an earlier post on Brugge is www.visitflanders.co.uk
