With the opera singers------anyone ever been there?

Looks kind of goofy but might be fun. Just looking for something different.

no, surprisingly I've never heard of it even though it has apparently been around for about 15 years. When I go to a city, I like to attend performances that have something to do with that place and language/culture, generally. I admit I don't like opera that much and wouldn't want it around when I eat, but they aren't even singing in French nor French composers, so the concept is a bit baffling to me (I could see it in Italy).

If you want music while you eat, there might be some other choices. LIke a jazz club or piano bar.

I've been to this place, though, it's very well known and has been around forever. It's not as formal and they have various types of entertainment and different rooms. One a piano bar, another a restaurant.

Christine---thanks for the response. We're not opera fans but it looked interesting and now it doesn't.

In all our trips to Paris the only "entertainment" we've been to is a Vivaldi concert at St. Chapelle. All the other entertainment just looks goofy. I guess we'll stick to dinner & a walk along The Seine.

Really TPAYT? We're always looking for "entertainment" too. We've been to loads of concerts over the years, some free, some ticketed. Purchase one of the weekly guides in any tabac (there are two guides, & sorry but the names escape me, maybe one is Spectacles). Just be sure to check for dates; they are published every Wednesday. Many "free" venues are in churches and depending on the musicians and their programs, it can be a heavenly experience. The best by far was a ticketed concert at the Opera last October. Now that was a memorable way to see the building! EJ

It's pretty much understood that, in Paris, you will get either a great view or some kind of entertainment, but this will not normally coincide with a great meal.

What you eat in these places won't kill you, but it's really preferable to find a decent restaurant where you can just enjoy the food and the company of the people you're with.

I believe Elsiejune is referring to the weekly entertainment guides which are on sale at all news kiosques. One is Pariscope and the other is l'Officiel des Spectacles.

They do list everything going on in the city with sections for cinema, museums, theatre, monuments, as well as concerts and music, which is divided into classical, jazz, rock, opera, etc. You will see many classical performances in various venues in these guides, many churches, as well as the bigger concert halls, and small clubs. Prices are listed, and some recitals are free, others fairly cheap. They are in French, but you should be able to make out times, dates and venues easily enough, as well as price. I always get one of these or both as soon as I get to Paris, they are less than one euro each.

You might try Trois Malletz for some fun, it isn't a set price, if you set in the ground floor room, you buy whatever you want, doesn't have to be a full meal.
