Begur (Costa Brava) Villas
I am scoping out villas for a week in mid-July for 2 families (4 adults, 3 teens). We will have 2 cars. Based on comments here and T.A., I've honed in on Begur as a good base for the area. There are quite a few options. Some are in/around Begur. I've found one in a "nearby" small village that is intriguing but I don't know the pros/cons.
We might spend 1-2 days at the beach so being right on it isn't a big driver (as noted by my selections below). Comments requested. Prices listed in GBP for common currency (the other family is British) 1) "Stone House" £1400 http://www.homeaway.co.uk/p893551 "Great views/looks cozy". No pool. No reviews. 2) "La Chumbera" £1700 http://www.homeaway.co.uk/p2139145 nice big (communal) pool, looks cozy. No reviews. 3) "Stone Villa" £1950 http://www.vrbo.com/13413ha this one is in a small village a little further out. Intriguing. Numerous great comments. Pool is tiny. Looks dark? Parking nearby in a public lot. 4) "Wonderful Villa" £2250 http://www.vrbo.com/824528ha large, spacious, quiet, good comments, pool, top $$ Obviously, the first 2 are a little risky since there aren't any comments, |
In the summer there is no way I would rent a villa in Spain that didn't have a decent pool - esp with kids - even if the house does have complete AC. Have you checked on the latter - I don;t see AC mentioned - or is that a given (as it would be in the US)?

I agree with nyt that a pool is a must, but I wouldn't go for a shared pool for privacy and security's sake. For the location alone I'd go for number 4, but it looks like a really good spot.
|
I think 4 is great but I'd probably go for 3 and have a very expensive meal out to soak up the money.
|
Non of those properties are showing a licence number.
Which ever one you choose Ask for it. By law they are meant to show them in any advertisements they have on line, sometimes it is an error that it is not placed on the website and sometimes they just are not abiding by the law. Read more about the law on TA here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g1...Barcelona.html Whilst this says Barcelona it is actuality a law that covers all of Catalonia. |
@nytraveler -- most do not have A/C (none of these do except for the occasional bedroom unit). Good points on the pool.
@Rubicand -- I think the communal pool is only for a few units, but point taken. @bilboburglar -- glad someone didn't vote for the most expensive :) @ribeirasacra -- thanks for the tip. I will ask. Stay away if not provide, I presume. Any specific thoughts on the location of #3? |
Most villas, even the less expensive ones, typically require a minimum stay in July, and usually Saturday to Saturday rentals only.
#3 is a house if the village of Peratallada. It looks nice, well taken care of, and is within 20 to 25 minutes of some of the beaches. Most non-luxury villas do not have A/C, and this is no exception, but thanks to the stone walls, it should be cool enough in July. The pool is fine for soaking in, but is open to the hot summer sun. The most expensive property, #4, may be worth the price if you want comfort. It's listed as a luxury villa, which is pushing it somewhat, but it has a decent pool and views of the Med. It's also a stand alone property, with plenty of privacy. Its location, a few minutes from Begur, is also another good point. |
Appreciate all the suggestions.
Sat/Sat does appear to be the norm. We can work with that. Our friends have weighed in as well. Looks like a pool is a must. We'll target #4 and I'll look for some similar options. |
I'm back. While waiting for a response to #4 I thought I'd ping #2 for some clarification.
The actual agency posting is here: http://www.interhome.com/spain/costa...-es9440.707.1/ It lists an Accommodation Code: ES9440.707.1. Is this what I should be looking for? The Homeaway posting was in error. The pool is private (confirmed). Location looks good. And there are 4 comments (better than none) on the Interhome site. Sure, #4 is nicer, but I'm not sure it's 730€ nicer. Am I missing something? |
No! #4 is a lot nicer. So it comes down to what you're looking for. One's very private, the other isn't. #2 is more walkable to the center of Begur, if that's what you're looking for.

That code "ES9440.707.1" is only the code for the website listing. It has nothing to do with the registration number to legalise the property.
It should start of with HUT. http://empresaiocupacio.gencat.cat/e...emo_habitatges If any property has one you will find them listed on this website. http://www14.gencat.cat/rtcwebguies/AppJava/index.jsp or look up the property using the name or address on this website. http://www14.gencat.cat/rtcwebguies/...in=&placesMax= |
