Spend more time in Napflion. This small city has so much to offer and is surrounded by the Mycenae antiquities.

Check out that album I sent you in the very first post. That will show you what to see in Nauplion. It is lovely and you can spend 2 or 3 days there easily.

YOu ask specific advice on Delphi & Nafplion, but you do not recap what your itinerary will be in terms of timetable... when do you leave athens for this junket & how many days do you have... we can't keep track of it.

People often advise drive to Delphi late-aft the day before (it's light until 9+in June) stay o'nite, then hit the site at 8 am to beat the tour-bus crowds, they arrive 10:30. can see everything in Delphi in 4 hours if you're prepared. Then drive to Nafplio; the Michelin Trip-Planner site will map route & tell you every detail http://www.viamichelin.com/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm-- it's 257 Km (160mi) and will take 4 hours... a bit more if you get off hiway at Isthmus to gawk at Corinth Canal. Then spend a couple of days in & around Nafplio... maybe I'll see u there!

Travelerjan-- that viamichelin site is great and shows me that it isn't that much driving to get to Delphi and then Nafplion--thanks to all of my Foder's "travel agents" this is my itinerary at this time-- I seem to be staying at Naflion longer than anywhere else....should I take one day from there and add it elsewhere...having never been to any of these places not sure if I have short changed an important place. Can anyone see any problems/concerns with this??

No, you have a very do-able schedule, and it allows for some flexibility... for example if your island period should have to be extended for some reason, you could simply phone your car rental agency, and your Nafplion hotel, and delay things by 1 day ... in June this is easy to do -- except PLEASE NOTE; June 11-12-13 is "Holy Spirit" (Pentecost) weekend, the first big getaway weekend... so transport/lodgings will be busy Fri thru Tues am.

It's wise, and anxiety-reducing, to have a cell-phone along, so easy to ring up & confirm one's bookings or tweak them. Instead of us repeating ourselves about cellphones please use the "search" slot for previous threads. Me, instead of using US cellphone, bought cheap (34€) Greek cellphone on arrival... and saving it for my next trip to Europe.

"too much time" in Nafplio ... no no no!!! You alreaady saw stanbr's wonderful slideshow ,now look at this superb link http://www.visitnafplio.com/visitnafplio.com/Home.html -- full info about 5-6 major ancient sites -- beaches, wineries, castles etc etc. As you get nearer your date, you can ask specifics... you will NOT be bored I assure you!

I think you are going to be very happy with your trip.
As to being in Naupliuon too long keep in mind Nauplion is ideally situated to do day trips to see all the wonderful sites nearby. You can go to Mycenae, Epidaurus and Ancient Tiryns. You could head over to Argos and find the Roman site and its Venetian fortress. You could also plan a longish day trip to Sparti to visit Mystras the last home of the Byzantines. No you have not given too much time to Nauplion at all.

Oh, almost forgot... my favorite hidden-beach/ruins combo ... On way back from Mycenae, almost to Tolo Beach (which is usually jammed)... Asine!! An Hellenic ruin, overlooking a small pebbly cove, 6 sunbrellas, 10 sunbeds, crystalline waters... aah. Scramble around the ruins, then dip in the sea, recline on the sunbeds. Look across the way at crowded Tolo and laugh. And just above the beach, a small Taverna where you can change; as the sun gets low, you can sit in the taverna, enjoy the sunset, and have a lovely fish dinner, VERY modest prices.

It sounds like your itinerary is planned but just a thought about Meteora. It is just beautiful with unbelievable rock formations and monasteries atop them. My trip to Greece in 2006 was wonderful in all aspects, but Meteora was one of the very best things we did.

We hired a driver who took us all over, including Meteora for an overnight stay. At least check it out before passing it up.

I can't remember how to post my photos on here, but if you Google Meteora, you'll see some great shots.

My profile picture is at Meteora, one of the monasteries.

Thanks Travelerjan for sharing your hidden beach/ruins combo--it sounds wonderful and am salivating over the fish dinner at the adjacent Taverna--

I endorse travelerjan's suggestion of the visit to Asine, truly a hidden gem and visited by few. Jan and I have discussed this ancient sight a good few times due to its direct connection with the Trojan War and the uniqueness of the place. This is a very good source:

Believe me, it's very easy when sitting at that taverna to look over the ruins and imagine their strategic importance in times long gone by.
