Beginning Itinerary Central Europe

Would appreciate any comments you might have. My partner and I will be traveling from eastern Canada to Prague late August to late September. I have 5 nights booked at Prague, two at Cesky Krumlov. Was thinking of Vienna for three nights but every hotel is booked up so I thought one night in Bratislava and hydrofoil to Budapest for 4 nights. Here's where I get stuck. Partner wants to go to Sarajevo, Zagreb, Mostar, Ljubljiana, which looks like its all over the place. While I think Croatia and the coast between Dubrovnik to Zagreb has had rave reviews and should cover about 10 days stop off in Ljubljana for two days and then to Vienna to end the trip. Or, take the train to Pecs for a night or two, then Lubjiana and travel the Croatian coastline to Dubronik. Fly Dubrovinik to Vienna and I would end the trip there before flying back to Canada. I need help. Right now it seems I'm hopping all over the place when I would like to do the capitals and then take a rest, then check out Vienna for the last leg of the trip.

Any thoughts.

hi, denise,

there have been several threads about this area of europe recently, and most posters are as confused about where everything is in relations to everthing else, including your partner, and me!

may I suggest you both sit down with a good map, and a glass of wine, and start planning a sensible route.

what you have up to budapest looks fine to me - then are you training or driving? do you want to countryside, mountains, beaches or more towns [you've had a lot of them already !]

if you can squeeze it in, Dubrovnik os a must and the coast to the north is lovely [or it was 20+ years ago!]

you could head back to Vienna or even Venice!

you've just got to sit down together with that map.

happy planning,

regards, ann

Thanks Ann. Thinking of taking the train for the most part. My partner never got over driving in Italy, so for the sake of sanity, train, bus or air. We've got the map, I'll pick up the wine.

Okay the itinerary has changed. Again comments would be welcomed. I have one month - 30 full days in Europe excluding travel time. I've read the trip reports for Eastern Europe. So if anyone can add to the tail end of my trip I would appreciate it.

Eastern Canada via London Heathrow
London to Prague
Prague - 5 nights
Cesky Krumlov - 2 nights
Vienna - 3 nights
Hydrofoil down the Danube to Budapest
Budapest - 4 nights
Fly Budapest to Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik - 4 nights
Hvar/Split area - 4 nights
Ljubjana - 2 nights

I have five additional nights so do I
go to Trieste, Venice and fly to London or ........???

Suggestions!!! Thanks

Hi
It's making more sense now, wine always helps clear the mind. If I may suggest going from Ljublana [2 days is enough there] to Trieste [I've driven through it on the way to Venice, wish I had stopped] then on to Venice for 4 days. I presume your'e flying from Venice to London? Too bad your partner won't drive, really miss out on a lot of towns. Cesky Krumlov is very nice. Too bad you can't visit Istria while in Croatia, Rovinj is a great place. Enjoy you trip, it sound very nice.
