What are the names of some of the best Austrian beers? During my travels there I have never found anything of much interest and nothing near the level of your average Bavarian brewery. But then again I consider Bavaria beer heaven.

As for czech, I am partial to Budweiser(unrelated to Anaheimer-Busch) but people generally agree Pilsner Urquell is an excellent beer.

By all means go to some pubs. A couple of my most vivid memories of Prague are of things we saw in the pubs. I remember a interesting one near the old town called something Tiger(I believe Zlateho Tygra).

Well, we like Murauer, which in Vienna you can get on tap at Stomach. We drink loads of it when on vacation in the Steiermark. The Murau area is scenic and we have fond memories of traveling there, so that makes us like the beer even more.

As previously stated: Murauer on tap, Hansy Brau at Gasthaus Hansy near the Prater, Goesser, on tap at Goesserbierlink in Vienna (BTilke, you should try both places...food is great Austrian fare as well) Fischerbrau, on tap at their wonderful restaurant and garden in Vienna, Ottakringer Helles, Wieselburger, Edelweiss...glad I don't have to name all the excellent wines!

Personally, I'm into the really dark Czech beer ("czerny", or black). It's almost sweet (not as bitter as some of the Pilsner stuff). In any case, all Czech beer is better than Czech wine, so order some & drink up. Remember - it's cheaper than water there! ((b))

I'll pop my head above ground in case Guy18 or Robespierre are still shooting at me, but a Hungarian friend of mine introduced me to Pilsner Urquell. In MY OPINION, I find it to suit MY taste better than any other beers available in the USA. Bitburger is quite nice too. The same Hungarian friend got me to try a Budvar, I was less than impressed (MY PERSONAL OPINION), but certainly better than the AB version here.

Thank you Robespierre.

See, we do have something in common.

I never doubted it :)

2. Carlsberg Special Export (18%)
3. Königsbacher pilsener
4. Kronenbourg 1664
5. That Kölsch from the little gasthaus-brauerei adjacent to the Park Plaza Köln
