beds

In past visits to different parts of Europe I have always found the beds to be a bit firm for my liking. I'm about to embark on another trip but this time I am pregnant. I know I'm going to be uncomfortable. I have been searching for some type of portable mattress topper that won't break the bank or take up precious luggage space. Can anyone recommend anything to make those beds a little softer? Thank you!

Would a yoga mat work? They are easily portable.

Camping inflatable mattress?

I used to have a very small and flat camping mattress that was inflatable. It rolled up to about the size of a yoga mat but gave a little more cushioning. Maybe something like that could be found at a gear store or online.

How to make a hard European bed softer? Perhaps a sheet of plywood? That would be an improvement over some beds I've had.

Seriously though, where are you going? In Germany where feather comforters are common you can put on underneath you and use another as a cover. Ask the hotel for an extra for your comfort.

The ideas about small camping cushion are good - you don't need one the full body length - about 4' should be sufficient from head to tail.
