Thanks again to those who replied. To flanneruk - it was never my intention to start an argument. Here in the US recently and over the summer month we've had a number of tv news programs showcasing the growing number of bedbug reports in hotels in the US and Europe. The fact that I had made plans to go to London prompted me to see what was being said about the hotels there. If you put "reports of bedbugs in London hotels" in your browser you will see that there have been reports. I would have browsed Las Vegas the same way if I had been going there on vacation. It seems that worldwide the bedbugs have become a problem because they seem to have become more resistant to chemicals that were previously used.
Here again, I acknowledge that there indeed seems to be a problem in the US. I truly love London and never meant this as slander to London hotels. Just trying to be safe and get information.

I did that, then restricted the results of the search to this year - the top result was this thread, the next result was about a bed bug epidemic in New York, the next news reference was a page later - and was about Spain.
Somewhere around page 4 I finally found a report of bedbugs in about a dozen London hotels which - which considering London has over 100,000 hotel rooms is a very small number and is about the number of infestations you'd find in some small American city and several orders of magnitude lower than NY.
Given the reports I'd be more concerned about staying anywhere in the US then travelling to London

I too put "reports of bedbugs in London hotels" - there seem to be 2 reports, one in 2006, the other in 2009. There was a long list of hits but only of these two incidences.
The 2006 incident was ONE ROOM - just unlucky that it was a alawyer who stayed there.
