Bed Sizes in Italy

I am so confused! I am looking at lodging and can't figure out how bed sizes are listed. I see double, queen, even king but they often seem to mean the same thing. Short of contacting properties about exact size in centimeters is there a key to this I have been too dense to comprehend?

The only size I have experience with was called "matrimonial" and it was a double. DH was very frugal so we were never in places with big beds! In most places, we had 2 singles--they ranged from only slightly wider than my purse to almost big enough for the 2 of us if we got frisky.

Twin beds in Italy are narrower than in North America. Often a double is two twins pushed together. This may help:

That's a nice site, ellenem. Please correct my spelling to matrimoniale!
