Bed and Breakfast in Tuscany
 

Can any one recommend a Bed and Breakfast in Tuscany? I have looked at Slow Travel, I've looked at TravelTuscany.net but I can not find reviews regarding the places listed on the TravelTuscany.net . I am looking in the Chianti or Siena area and we will be arriving there this Oct. 25 so I need recommendations quickly. All help is greatly appreciated.

Look at Fattoria Tregole near Castellini and Casanova Pescille near San Gim. Both are fairly close to Siena.

We just stayed at Fattoria Tregole in Castelinna In Chianti last month for 5 nights. The rooms are spotless and the bathrooms are very large and nice as well.

Edith, the owner, and her staff do a great job and Edith makes a point to speak to her guets each monring before they leave to see if she can help make their explorations more enjoyable.

If you want to visit a very nice little hill town, go to Casole d' Elsa. Edith suggested it and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our visit there with very easy, free parking.

Thank you for the advise. It is difficult to make some reservations because I have discovered that in Italy the price quoted is per person per night while in the US it is per night, two people included.

Not true---that is the exception. It only applies when the place offers half board---very common in the ski resorts.

Good to know. The hotel & I had a rather large misunderstanding and they are telling me it is normal to charge per person in Italy....it is not a ski resort but rather a hotel in Venice.

I loved this place, as did two other 'sets' of friends who have stayed there:
Podere Torre, just outside Greve in Chianti. You can read about the place at www.greve-in-chianti.com; look under Chianti Vacation Rentals or Farmhouse Holidays.

It is simple, charming, and peaceful, with vineyards, roses, fruit trees, a couple of friendly dogs, and kind Cecilia to take care of you. Down the hill is the tiny village of Montefioralle with a good restaurant, La Castellana.

After 16 trips to Italy, I have only seen it at mountain or lake resorts where it is common to eat in.

I haven't stayed yet, but have booked for June. Great reviews, great prices, and so far, great response to many email enquiries! it has received great review here on FodorsForum, and numerous ones on tripadvisor.

They make and serve Chanti wine (Savernano label, of course) from their vineyard, on the farm.

As Navigator Bob said, the charge at all the places i checked is not per person, but per room.

This place charges per room for the bed and breakfast, not per person. If you want to have dinner there, then only the dinner itself is per person.

Thanks to you all. I have booked a room with Fattoria Tregole in Castelinna In Chianti and now I am moving to some final steps of our trip. Has anyone stayed at La Posta Vecchia Hotel near Rome? It sounds & looks wonderful! Expensive yes, but I am considering it our final "bang" as my husband & I celebrate 25 years of marriage.

Glad you decided on Tregole. I'm sure you'll like it. A word of advice on getting there. The instructions are not clear on their website. Once you actually reach the town of Castellina, stay on the main road through town and once you leave town, Tregole is probably another 2-3 miles outside of town. You'll see a sign on your left and turn left onto a dirt/gravel road.
Stay on that road for about 2 km and you reach the main house. You'll recognize it by the round dome on top of their chapel. The road forks right as you get to the house. Stay to the right and you'll drive up a slight incline and then you'll see the parking area righ after you pass one of the outbuildings.
After you park, walk to the right and pass the pool and enter through the door right off the terrace where breakfast is served on nice days. Edith or one of her staff are usually close by.
Make sure you try Tregole's "Fanero" wine while you're there and definately have dinner there one night.
