I was in London in early October. A new perfume by Versace was released there on October 8th at Harrod's as an exclusive. It's called Crystal Noir and it is absolutely wonderful.

It will probably be released in the US eventually but I don't think it's available here yet. I paid 58GBP for a 90ml bottle. It's worth it.

Penhaligans and Jo Malone are still not all over the US and I personally love them both.
Go to Neals Yard and get some nice soaps and lotions (Covent Garden)
Boots is fun just because it is a pharmacy.
It is getting harder and harder to find something in another country that is not in the US..sigh~

Neal's Yard Dairy is still there and Neal's Yard Remedies is just around the corner. They're fun places to visit although it was more fun (agreeing with Scarlett here) when they weren't selectively available here in the US.

I remember stumbling onto Neals Yard, years ago, while looking for a funky music store to bring home cd's for my son. I love it there ..
Some of these products might be available in the US, but that does not make the pleasure of buying them in London or elsewhere any less.
It is all in the thrill of the hunt LOL

You are so right, Scarlett. Every time I discovered a new fragrance that wasn't available here, it soon was all over the place.
My favorite fragrance was discontinued years ago. "Ode"by Guerlain.

I still head straight for Mary Quant for makeup. The latest store (used to be in Kensington High Street area) is now a stone's throw from Harrod's.

I was going to mention Mary Quant too! I haven't seen it anywhere else but in England.
Another British line is Pout... available in some places in North America but not readily available.
Also, although not British, some Agnes B. stores carry her line of makeup.

If you do go to Boots, the Ruby & Millie line of cosmetics is fairly good, although not carried in all their stores. Kensington High Street should have it, though.

Sephora, while from France originally, is all over the US (and we will finally have it in Canada soon). Have been in many of their stores and the lines they carry vary from place to place... in Greece, I was disappointed to see Sephora full of Maybelline products!! Guess that was "unusual" and trendy to them. The Paris Sephora had harder-to-get lines like Giorgio Armani cosmetics.

Thanks for all the responses!

Kayb95, you are right about companies producing different products for different countries. I still have a tube of YSL lipstick bought in Paris in a shade that has never been released in the U.S. And thanks for the info about Boots products being rolled out by Target — I don't live in one of the test markets, but it's something to look forward to. In the meantime I'll enjoy browsing in their London stores. I've found worthwhile products at Boots in the past. I'm no snob about provenance — if a product is good it's good, and I don't care where it came from.

ThinGorjus, thanks so much for the info on Santa Maria Novella. I somehow missed going to the main shop in Florence a couple of years ago, and I plan to make up for it in London!

I think Moulton Brown is sold at Sephora, but it's bound to be cheaper at home. Neal's Yard sounds promising. What does Creed make, besides fragrance?

Anyone have any experience with Screenface and Cosmetics a la Carte?

Creed does bath gels, body lotions, etc.
Even a man's shaving cream but I have only bought the Fragrances.

I'm keen on shower gels, and love the Forest Fern scent from Marks and Spencer. It's fun to shop at a store that most Brits have patronized at one time or another. One year, my mother brought back some lavender shower gel from Harrod's. Their own brand, and the foam was heavenly.

Re: Elnet

Don't buy this product unless you want a *set* look on your hair. As mentioned before it's very old fashioned and is mainly used by older women.

There is a very nice range of products made by a company called, I believe, Floris London. They are very fine fragrances and home products. They have just been made available in New York and on the web; however, you may be able to avoid some additional costs if you buy enough to have the VAT returned at the airport. That goes for any product native to the UK... (I know that I was able to save about 15% of the price on the Creed perfumes I purchased)

As for the anti-Lush folks...I've never really thought about soap being dirty! How funny! There is an absolutely DELICOUS smelling body wash not available to the American or Canadian market called Flying Fox--it comes in a bottle, so you needn't worry about germs.

Another thing about Boots: sometimes companies like L'Oreal will release new products in London first. While I personally am a slave to Chanel makeup, a company called Bourjois (available at Sephora) had come out with the FIRST dual mascara--you know, the primer coat on one end, color on the other? Anyway, I am a product junkie and NO ONE else had this product. So good for Boots, and good for lower end make up lines. Of course, most of the major high end cosmetics lines offer mascara primers now... But that was just an example. It always pays to look around. Have fun on your trip!

The Dillards Dept store in Jax Florida sells Floris. What a wonderful scent! All of them!
I am annoyed, Boots is still only in a couple of stores in other states

Floris has been available in New York for years...I first bought it ages ago at Cambridge Chemists or some such place.
I remember the purchase because the pharmacist kept trying to push a certain Floris scent at me because "that's what Walter Matthau wears." I had to break the news to him that smelling like Walter Matthau is not usually a high priority for a young woman!
