Beaune to Geneva

This question is on behalf of a friend who leaves Saturday for a 2-1/2 week trip, first to Paris solo, then meets friends to do a river barge. At the end...

She'll end up in Beaune solo and flys out of Geneva 3 days later. She will travel by train. Any ideas?

I'm trying to talk her into going to Vevey/Montreux area but she was thinking it might make more sense to stay in France until heading to the airport.

Thanks for any input on nearby towns that might make sense and/or nice 2/3-star type hotels along the way.

Thanks Underhill. Yes I know to do that & appreciate your suggestion on the other thread. I made this separate post since I was worried tagging on a 3 year old one of someone else's maybe would not get noticed.

I will pass on the idea about visiting Annecy, that's exactly the kind of reply I was hoping to find by asking.

Annecy is a beautiful old town, with canals running through the old part and a nice park down by the lake. Good shopping, too.

(did some quick googling) Annecy looks perfect! Thank you.

Update with a great big THANK YOU to Underhill... & post trip report:

My friend arrived home today. She spent her last two nights in Annecy and absolutely loved it! Friends gave her a lift in their rental car, as they were heading down to northern Italy. They stuck around until she found a hotel, across the plaza from the train station for two night, 49 euro w/private bath. She had time to see the sights, a photography exhibit, scope out hotels for future visits, chat with international travelers down at the lake.

(She took lots of photos because this is great information for me, future trips, when I'm in that area.)

Then successfully trained into Geneva on the morning of her flight home, using instruction I was able to pass on to her, caught a taxi from the train station to the airport, 50 CHF.

So, one huge THANK YOU, more than words can say.
