Beaune
We are staying in Beaune, France for 4 nights and would welcome any recommendations of places that we should definately visit . We will have a car.

We'll be staying in Beaune for two or three days at the end of this month, but we've never been there before. I'm a wine buff, so I hope to visit at least one Burgundy shipper, negociant, or maker. I know there are tours of Clos de Vougeot from Dijon, but I need to do a bit more research. We'll not be driving but traveling by rail.

In Beaune definitely go to the Marche du vins for wine tasting, I think its 5 euro and you get 15 tastings in their caves. Also the 'hospital' that has a fabulous roof.
We spent a day in Dijon and did the owl tour (you get this from the tourist office) and just loved it. The other two days we did the wine routes (from the tourist board or their website). Have a great time! Burgundy is beauiful! |
Beaune's main attraction is the medieval hospital:
http://www.hospices-de-beaune.com And another vote for the Marché aux Vins. It is a self-guided tasting and do not plan to do anything else after your visit. Taste, but do not buy: http://www.marcheauxvins.com/ From Beaune, drive the small back roads (the white roads in the Michelin map) through the famous vineyards. Clos de Vougeot should be visited in any case. If you want to see a palace, you may visit Chateau Sully and/or Chateau Savigny-lès-Beaune. A medieval castle would be Chateau La Rochepot, about 20 min driving time from Beaune. |
YOu might also want to spend lunch in Chablis on the way down from Germany, lovely little town
|
Chateauneuf as well which is 35km North West of Beaune (medieval castle on top of a hill and one of the "plus beaux villages de France") And another vote for Dijon of course!
|
Oops I forgot to mention Citeaux abbey (East of Nuits st Georges)

Definitely the hospice and the Mrche des Vins. However, I'd recommend staying in Dijon and visiting Beaune on a day trip rather than the other way round. See my TR: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...-france.cfm?43 for my visit to both.

We really enjoyed a wine tasting lunch at Olivier Leflaive in Puligny Montrachet when we were in Beaune. I think if you google Olivire Leflaive you should find the information re the tasting. Our visit was 4 years ago so not sure what they may offer currently.
