Beaucaire & Tarascon
 

These names keep popping up during my reasearch/reading.

Since they are convenient I was wondering if there's anything of touristic interest.

Specific landmarks are not important.

The interest would be more for wandering around for a few hours, seeing nice reasonably clean streets with interesting structures and people.

Maybe just building a "B" list.

I would put it on the C list. Except for the castle, not much of interest. Cadogan says Tarascon (of maybe it's Beaucaire) seems like a place with too many auto repair shops behind closed garage doors, and in need of a paint job. We've driven through many times, and wandered around once in each town.

Neither held much interest for me, except that my kids once enjoyed a falconry show at the castle in Tarascon, but it wasn't worth its salt compared to the one at Les Milandes in the Dordogne.

Beware of Tarascon...I drove through the town on my way to the Pont du Gard and smelled a very foul odor in the air. I thought perhaps there was a petroleum fire or a gas leak in the vicinity; it was that pungent. When I stopped for gas, I asked one of the locals. He said that it was the fumes that are emitted from the local paper factory, some by-product of wood and/or pulp. As a result, many people avoid spending time in Tarascon, in spite of the ruins of the Chateau of Tarascon on the Rhone river, which at least is a site of some historical importance.
